Brotherhood & Membership Development
- “Best Practices & Benchmarking Seminars” at Regional Staff Meetings, Regional Convention & Online Community Webinars on Membership Retention, Reclamation, Governance, Fundraising from Chapters and reputable external organizations.
- Convene forums or webinars based to successfully operate chapters & enhance Brotherhood leadership core competencies.
- Establish “Eastern Region Shark Tank Initiative” to highlight current & emerging entrepreneurs within the Brotherhood; and endeavor to provide access to training, certification & possible capital investment opportunities.
- U.S. Minority Business Development Agency: The U.S. Department of Commerce, Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) is the only federal agency solely dedicated to the growth and global competitiveness of minority business enterprises. MBDA programs, services, and initiatives focus on helping MBEs grow today, while preparing them to meet the industry needs of tomorrow. MBDA programs offer customized business development and industry-focused services to provide greater access to capital, contracts and markets.
- U.S. Small Business Administration: The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has created an SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative, an intensive executive-level series intended to accelerate the growth of high-potential small businesses in America’s underserved cities. Since 2008, the SBA’s Emerging Leaders Initiative has trained over 5,000 small business owners, creating over 6,500 jobs, generating over $300 million in new financing, and securing over $3.16 billion in government contracts.
- Training is for established business owners. SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative provides customized training for “C” (CEO, COO, etc.) level executives with demonstrated business sustainability of at least 3 years in business and annual revenue of at least $250K. Recruitment begins in February through SBA’s local district offices and classes typically begin in April,
- Emerging Leaders Initiative provides free entrepreneurship education and training for executives of small, poised-for-growth companies that are potential job creators.
- The SBA-ELI includes 100 + hours of professional, specialized training and peer-to-peer counseling delivered over the course of seven months (Growth Strategies Plans / Financing and Access to Capital / Government Contracting; and CEO Mentoring).
- Community Development Financial Institutions: CDFI’s are mission-driven financial institutions, certified by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s CDFI Fund, which include credit unions, banks, loan funds, & venture capital funds, dedicated to serving low-income communities.
- Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy: Works with local and national nonprofits, foundations, colleges and universities, associations, and other organizations that sponsor, The Fund Raising School courses for fundraising staff, grantees, and members. Customized training initiates dialogue with key stakeholders. Potential topics include: Effective requests for gifts; Board Members & Fundraising; Trends in giving and fundraising; Volunteerism; and Leadership and fundraising.
- Reemphasize “College Life to Corporate Life (C2C)” Program: Strengthen C2C marketing & recruitment among College Brothers and identify robust partnerships (e.g., internships, international study abroad programs)
- Provide outreach and form partnerships with interested companies, to reestablish the Eastern Regional Convention Jobs Fair or host a Regional Employment Opportunity Portal (EOP) to highlight recent positions, and provide initial Brotherhood resume assessment.
- “College Days Swiftly Pass” Transition Initiative: College Brothers are the lifeblood of the fraternity,” and via this Initiative, we will collaborate with District, Area & chapter leaders to encourage recent college brothers (& those in graduate school) to join alumni chapters & maintain their zeal in the fraternity.
- “Going Beyond the I”: As Eastern Regional Vice President, and Member, National Board of Directors, Bro. Beckett will provide leadership to encourage chapters throughout the Eastern Region to engage in assertive neophyte training, based upon trainings on the Ritual, JEWELS-centered character development sessions, and structured mentorship, to coach and motivate newly initiated brothers entering the House of Alpha, beyond neophyte sponsorship.

- Task Force on Mentorship & Academic Success: Bro. Beckett recognizes the need to assist College Brothers to achieve academic scholarship, campus engagement, towards graduation. Through collaboration with College Chapters and the Commission on College Brothers Affairs, this Task Force will emphasize the importance of individual and collective academic retention to ensure chapter sustainability.
- Support networking and structured mentorship among College-Alumni Brothers, to facilitate better and consistent working relationships.
- Quarterly roundtable dialogues with Chapters, Chapter Presidents, Chapter Advisors, Area Directors and District Directors.
